The Sixth International Conference on Family Planning

The theme of the sixth International Conference on Family Planning is “Family Planning & Universal Health Coverage.” There will once again be a demographic dividend track during the conference where participants will focus on the returns on investments in family planning.

The 29th International Population Conference
December 5 - 10, 2021
This major international event will draw around 2,000 population scholars, policy makers, and government officials from around the world to discuss the latest population research and debate pressing global and regional population issues. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers have decided that IPC 2021 will most likely be a combination of several in-person sessions in Hyderabad, India, while most sessions will be virtual.

The Fifth Asian Population Association Conference
August 3 - 5, 2021

This virtual conference will bring together scholars, researchers, policymakers, and government officials to discuss Asian population issues. There will be over 200 live sessions covering 14 themes, one of which is the demographic dividend.

The Generation Equality Forum
June 30 - July 2, 2021
📍Paris
The Forum reaffirmed the value of multilateralism and brought together the leadership and participation of various stakeholders. The selected themes of the Generation Equality Action Coalitions were: Gender-Based Violence, Economic justice and rights, Bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights, Feminist action for climate justice, Technology and innovation for Gender Equality, and Feminist movements and leadership.

Population Association of America (PAA) Annual Meeting
May 5 - 8, 2021

The 2021 PAA conference had 240 paper sessions spanning across 16 topics. There were also 22 additional sessions that considered some of the most important population issues of our day, including discussions on the 2020 Census and others highlighting recent findings from consensus studies produced by the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.Â

The International Conference on Family Planning’s On-Demand Virtual Forum
February 2 - 3, 2021

During the virtual forum, a panel of experts shared emerging data and insight on the impact of COVID-19 on key pillars of the demographic dividend, including access to family planning, fertility, quality education, labor force participation, and women’s economic empowerment, in countries across Africa and Asia. Panelists also highlighted innovative approaches to mitigate these effects and sustain progress towards the demographic dividend.

The Nairobi Summit on ICPD25: Accelerating the Promise

During the conference, leaders articulated a bold vision regarding the relationships between population, development and individual well-being. Its Programme of Action, adopted by 179 governments, recognized that reproductive health, as well as women’s empowerment and gender equality, are the pathway to sustainable development.Â

Women Deliver Conference

More than 8,000 people from 169 countries gathered to discuss gender equality and the health, rights, and wellbeing of girls and women in the 21st century. One session, Family Planning – A Best Buy in Global Development, focused on how the right to decide over your own body can improve the lives of women and girls in developing countries and be the catalyst for economic growth and development to reap the demographic dividend.

The Fifth International Conference on Family Planning

The fifth International Conference on Family Planning focused on the demographic dividend. Its theme, “Investing for a Lifetime of Returns,” spoke to the various returns on investment that family planning provides, from education and empowerment to economic growth and environmental health. Many of the conference sessions highlighted the ways in which countries can harness the benefits of the demographic dividend on the macro and micro levels.Â
