25 January 2016 – The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, Population Reference Bureau, and the Population and Poverty Research Network held an ICFP Pre-conference Workshop on the Demographic Dividend. The workshop took place January 25, in advance of the International Conference on Family Planning in Nusa Dua, Indonesia.

The workshop tackled the opportunities and challenges related to achieving the demographic dividend, especially in countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa, and equipped attendees with information and skills to contribute to moving the demographic dividend agenda forward. Workshop speakers discussed metrics and methodologies used to quantify the economic impact of 1) the demographic transition and 2) gender equality and women’s participation in the formal labor market. The workshop also instructed attendees on how to effectively engage with policy audiences and other stakeholders on the demographic dividend.
